Once a raptor has recovered from an injury or illness it must go through a conditioning program to return it to a fit condition. Raptors are athletes and must be in top shape to be able to catch prey and elude predators.
Here at Skegemog Raptor center we use the creancing technique. We affix soft leather straps to the birds ankles and fly the bird on a line, which allows it to take controlled flights. As the bird flies we are monitoring it for any flight irregularities, weaknesses, wing droop, etc .
Once a raptor has passed flight school he or she can be returned to the wild.
