Leland eagle moves outside

After a week of medication, healthy diet, and cage rest this female bald eagle was reexamined by James and his son Quinlan Manley. The injured wing was gently misted with water, so feathers could be easily spread, revealing that the swelling and infection had subsided. The color of the skin had returned to normal and she has now gained about 1 1/2 lbs. Compared to the small male eagle weighing 7 1/2 lbs. recently released by SRC, this big girl is nearly 12 lbs! In the world of raptors, the females are larger than the males.

Enjoy this video of Volunteer Ken Scott opening the transport crate moving this Female outside. She will now be able to stretch her wings and move around more as her wounds finish healing. Soon she will be ready to begin the conditioning portion of her rehabilitation.
